Once a mortgage is paid off, the only remaining ongoing cost tied to the property itself is the property tax. This can become a burden for folks on fixed incomes, such as seniors, which you have pointed out. Basically this becomes a form of perpetual rent paid to the government simply for the privilege of continuing to own something we as people have already purchased. Ending the tax for seniors restores a clearer sense of ownership and frees up a burden-like accomplishment for people living in our state. Ownership shouldn’t feel like problem, it should feel like a reward for hard work and dedication. I agree!
